Peru: Puno - 19th December (Day 38)

We woke up and had buffet breakfast in the hotel. We wanted to visit the Uros floating village, so we asked at the hotel and they told us to go straight to the harbour. After a 15 minutes walk we arrived there and got a boat to Uros. We hired the tour in an agency for 10 soles each.

After around half an hour sail we arrived at the entrance of the village, where we had to pay 5 soles to get in. The village is formed of 95 floating islands made of plants that grow in the lake. We visited two of the islands, in the first one we could visit some houses and one of the inhabitants explained how the islands are built and maintained and how is living there like. After that he took us inside some of the houses and tried to sell us some handmade souvenirs.

They also offered a ride in a traditional boat to get to the other island and most of the people in the group did it. We didn't as we felt like they wanted to sell anything and take advantage of the tourists, so we went to the other island by the regular boat. We then met a Peruvian couple that also refused to get the other boat. The second island was the main one in the village and there we saw some restaurants, a supermarket and even a hotel.

After around an hour in the island we went back to Puno harbour and walked back to the hostel where  we arrived around 13h. Esteve was feeling sick in the stomach, so we spent most of the afternoon resting in the hotel. Meanwhile, Ari went to get a sim card at Movistar and got food to eat at the hotel.

Ari: was crazy at the Movistar shop. First of all the staff that was supposed to attend me was playing a game on his phone. He looked at me thinking : oh f*** I need to work. Then after 30 minutes getting my details and writing them down on the computer he asked me to sign a document accepting the sim card and also he asked me to put my finger print!! Just for a sim car, I know, crazy. So I spent one hour in the shop worried about how Esteve was feeling in the hotel, but luckily he was sleeping and he didn't realise how long it took me.

In the evening Esteve was feeling a bit better, so we went for a walk around the city centre.

  1. Ja sembleu del pais. Cuidado amb els cuernos. Algun bruixot a la tribu? El far de palla a punt de caure al aigua? O es la torre del vigia?
