North of Argentina: Salta - 4th and 5th December (Days 23 and 24)

After breakfast at the hostel, we went to explore the town looking for the free wine tour. We found the Bodega Vasija Escondida where they show us how the wine is produced and after we could try different wines for free. With the stomach full of wine, we went to the cheese factory and in the way there a 4x4 vehicle stopped and let us go on the back of the vehicle. When we arrived at the factory it was closed but we tried different kinds of cheese anyway and went to see the sheep. We went back to the village with the same vehicle.

For lunch we went to a restaurant close to the market where we found Yani again and chat for a while with her. After lunch we got the bus from the terminal to Salta at 16h. At the terminal we bought the bus ticket for several people with card to get cash. In the way to Salta we went through the Quebrada de las Conchas, and we saw the Garganta del Diablo from the bus. Also in the way, some girls caught the bus and got off in the middle of the desert.

When we arrived at Salta bus terminal we met Hugo, who drove us to his home. We had dinner with his parents and sister and chatted with them until late. We felt like being at home with them and we also loved their two cats.

When we woke up next day, Hugo's mom already had the breakfast ready for us. After enjoying the breakfast, we went out to explore Salta city. Our first idea was to get the cable car up to Cerro de San Bernardo, but when we arrived it was closed due to maintenance, so we decided to go walking. We didn't remember that there was stairs going straight to the top of the hill, so we took the cars road that was longer than the stairs. Luckily a car stopped by us and picked us up to the top. They were a kind of private taxi called Remis in Argentina. On the top we enjoyed amazing views over the city. We went down to the city again with the same car.

We walked around the city centre and visited Iglesia de San Francisco, Catedral Basílica de Salta and Centro Cultural America. Then we stopped our walking tour to have a Parrillada in a restaurant that Hugo recommended us.

With the stomach full of meat, we continued our tour to Museo de Arqueologia de Alta Montaña but just I went in as Ari didn't want to. In that museum is exposed one of the 3 inca mummies of children that were found in the Llullaillaco Volcano above 6700 meters. I joined an interesting group tour where they explained the history of the mummies and the Incas for one hour. Ari was bored waiting for me outside and someone told her that there was nothing interesting in the museum, so she called the security guard to take me out of the museum because she thought I had been kidnapped or something!

Back to Hugo's house, Hugo bought some empanadas salteñas and we had dinner with his family all together, chatting until late night.
